Time for a bit of luxury? It’s served up in generous portions at the stylish Blossom in the Beans, a glampsite surrounded by gorgeous green countryside close to the Leicestershire/Warwickshire border. The somewhat unusual name derives from that of the local village, a charming little settlement about a mile away. Slightly larger Market Bosworth is 10 minutes’ drive away for more amenities (including independent shops and restaurants) and you can get to major settlements including Leicester, Coventry and Birmingham with a drive of half an hour to 45 minutes as well (making this a good option for a quick local escape from urban life). City life may not be far away geographically speaking, but this place is a world away in atmosphere. For starters, you’ll be joining the family of animals that live on this five-acre site – a friendly bunch that love to meet new people and also provide fresh eggs for you to collect in the mornings. Once you’ve greeted everyone, settle in to your comfortable and cosy camping pod, a stylish and contemporary A-frame setup that’s got a farmhouse kitchenette, a bathroom with traditional rolltop bath, a woodburning stove and a mezzanine double bed. The large window forms a fantastic frame for the rural scenery, so you can admire it from the bed or the downstairs living space. Arguably, though, the surroundings are at their best when viewed from the deck, which is positioned to make the most of the sunset and has a firepit and a wonderful extra touch of luxury in the form of a Lay-Z-Spa hot tub.

Local attractions

There’s heaps of heritage and history to explore in this area, so plan to explore places like the Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre (15 minutes’ drive), 1620s House and Garden at Donington le Heath (15 minutes) and the Grant WW2 Museum (half an hour). Vintage trains on The Battlefield Line (five minutes to Shackerstone station) and at Statfold Country Park (20 minutes) give you a different take on the past. Once you’ve met the animals on site, set off to meet more exotic species with trips to Twycross Zoo (10 minutes) and Tropical Birdland (15 minutes). There are yet more animals to see at Drayton Manor Resort (half an hour), but the big draw here for most is the collection of rides and activities for all ages. If that’s all a little bit full-on, seek out one of the area’s quieter activities instead – there are plenty of walking/cycling trails in this rural area, or you could hire a boat for a day of exploring the waterways from Stoke Golding (15 minutes).
