  • Calke Abbey 15 minutes’ drive, and Alton Towers 55 minutes
  • Restaurant and bar on site; swimming and fishing in the River Trent
Heading for Download Festival? Yep, it’s that time of year again, where one of the UK’s most popular rock parties kicks off at Donington Park. If you’d prefer to escape the festival site for some peaceful slumber at the end of each day’s high-octane action, set up camp in gorgeous country surroundings at The Priest House – it’s only 10 minutes’ drive from the festival site but a whole, quiet world away. The hotel’s pop-up site will be open for the duration of the festival, and sits in a large, level meadow surrounded by mature trees and bounded by the River Trent (where you can go fishing or wild swimming if you can tear yourselves away from the bands). You can use the bar and restaurant for an extra charge, and the public toilets in the bar for free. Baby-changing and disabled facilities are also available. Access to the site is easy: it’s a handy 10 minutes’ drive from East Midlands Airport and about the same from the M1. While you’re there, be sure to make some time to have a nose around the historic hotel itself, which was built around an ancient mill tower and its original water wheels.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: It was a last minute booking to attend Download Festival, and we absolutely loved it! A slice of peace and quiet away from the madness of the festival.

We had a meal in the hotel and as it was my husband’s 30th Birthday, the staff treated us like royalty and the food was wonderful!

Having the option to have breakfast at the hotel was fantastic and they clearly knew their audience - providing a buffet for the attendees of the festival at 10:30pm! We’ll be back next year! 🤘
