  • Mongolian-style yurts in the peaceful Hertfordshire countryside
  • Three miles north of Tring; Ivinghoe Beacon 10 minutes' drive
  • Secluded glamping units in a tree-lined meadow with a stream
At the foot of the Chiltern Hills, Chiltern Yurts is fit to treat any craving for a country retreat. Far from city life’s stresses, you’ll be well-set to immerse yourself in wildlife here, with a luxurious and well-equipped Mongolian yurt as your roost. Near the hamlet of Gubblecote close to Tring, this small-scale glamping site would be a wise pick for families and couples looking for a secluded, back to nature stay in rural Hertfordshire. The surrounding site grounds and countryside are chief places to find wildlife. But while the place has a wild side, the yurts are rather homely. Each unit has a natural skylight, allowing guests to peep at the stars as they nod off to sleep and to wake up the natural way with the sun. Cosy comforts are strong here too, as the units come with a luxurious double bed and an additional convertible sofa, with a fifth bed available on request. Linen, towels and toiletries are all included, as are cosy throws and rugs to make you feel right at home. In your yurt, you will also have your own kettle, mini hob, mini fridge, cooking equipment, utensils and crockery and a logburning stove. The accommodation at Chiltern Yurts comes equipped with an ensuite hut where you have access to a hot-water shower, a flushing loo and a heated towel rail, so keeping yourself in ship shape is simple too.

Red Kite yurt

Liked: - Lovely style within the tent (dried flowers in vase, artwork, candles, interesting objects)
-Lights and heaing had been left on so that it was very cosy when we arrived
- Emma left some lovely brownies and marshmallows ready to toast. At my request she also left a salad to eat with the BBQ pack add-on.
-Breakfast add on was dropped at the door in the morning with warm pastries
- The fires and BBQs were prepped and ready to light
- Location was close to a canal + we visited Bletchley Park and Chequers
-The bathroom looks like a shed from the outside but was gorgeous inside (and the shower is one of the best I've used)

Local attractions

You might have already indulged in some wildlife watching in the countryside or on site, but one of the local hotspots for this sort of thing are the Tring reservoirs (five minutes' drive), where many bird species have taken up residence. While you’ll be left to your own devices there, there are more animals to peek at in the ZSL Whipsnade Zoo (20 minutes) or the Woburn Safari Park (30 minutes). Nostalgic are the museums around here too – there’s the Natural History Museum at Tring (10 minutes) or for those of you who are keen literary fans, The Roald Dahl Museum (25 minutes) is only a little further away. Some local historic places are still well intact… the National Trust’s Ashridge Estate (20 minutes) has footpaths among ancient trees and the Dunstable Downs (20 minutes) has a Saxon execution site (spooky, right?) Meanwhile, a walk up on Ivinghoe Beacon (10 minutes) will take you past prehistoric artwork, the tatters of an Iron Age hillfort and Bronze Age burial mounds. And over at the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre (30 minutes), you might feel properly nostalgic on a steam train trip.
