  • In a walkers' paradise in the Herefordshire countryside
  • Direct access to several trails including the Wye Valley Walk
  • Fully insulated pods with ensuite
Luxury insulated pods in the Herefordshire countryside – with their own cooking facilities, ensuite toilet and full-sized shower… what a base to come back to after a long day spent tramping the local paths. Of which there are many… Caplor Farm's Herefordshire border setting in Fownhope has it firmly in a walkers' paradise, with direct access to miles of trails including the popular Wye Valley Walk, the 136 miles of scenic countryside from Chepstow in Monmouthshire to Plynlimon in Powys. Fishing, canoeing, horse riding and plenty of other outdoor activities are all around here too, or you could treat yourself to properly easy time with gentle Herefordshire strolls, a look around the north of the county's black and white houses, the likes of Eastnor and Goodrich castles within nine miles, or the Hereford Cider Route (picking up samples along the way, of course). Each luxury pod is fully insulated and handsomely furnished, and has an ensuite toilet, a full-sized shower, cooking facilities and dining table and chairs. Bed linen and towels can be hired for an additional fee (please select them as an extra when making your booking). Electricity is included in the price but please note that the farm doesn't have wifi.

Local attractions

Walks and bike rides? Several trails start direct from here, including the circular Wye Valley Walk route to and from Ross-on-Wye, and a hike from Ledbury over Dog Hill and through Coneygree Wood. From local town Fownhope, it's about six and three quarter miles to Hereford, via Common Hill ridge, ancient woodland and the River Wye. The Hereford Cider Route is a top pick for a bike ride through this part of the country, passing land where apple farmers have been producing cider for centuries (tipple fans might be interested to know that Herefordshire produces over half of the UK's cider). Take the 20-mile circular route from the train station in Ledbury, passing farms such as Scrumpy House and Lyne Down, or the 19-mile run from Pembridge past Dunkertons Cider Mills and Dilwyn. Many heritage spots are in the area for a more peaceful day out, including Berrington Hall, Brockhampton Estate, the Brecon Mountain Railway, Hereford Cathedral and Croft Castle. You could also have a drive around the Black and White Trail, past the timbered and half-timbered houses of north Herefordshire. Golf, fishing, canoeing, whitewater rafting, cycling, horse riding, pony trekking and rock climbing are all available nearby.
