Big skies, green Gloucestershire countryside and artisan booze: what more could one want on a hol than this trip-boosting trio? If this sounds like just the holiday ticket, seek out Severn Valley Touring Caravan and Camping Site in the village of Awre, less than a five-minute walk from a traditional cider producer and a 10-minute drive to lovely Newnham-on-Severn. The park's also in an easy position to get to, as it's a mile and a half from the A48 Gloucester to Chepstow road and 25 minutes by car from the Wye Valley. Park up, pitch up then sit – cider in hand – to take in the gorgeous views from here (the Forest of Dean and the Malvern Hills are visible on clear days) and watch birds soar through the skies: the site's surrounds are home to creatures like kestrels, buzzards and red kites. Early risers might get a sneak peek of hares around the grounds at dawn too, and barn owls have been spotted in neighbouring fields during dusk in this ancient area once listed in the Domesday book as a royal hunting ground… Whatever the time of day or night, visitors have access to well-designed amenities like a purpose-built toilet and shower block, as well as covered washing-up facilities and a shower room that’s accessible to people with disabilities. Off site, the Severn Way is about half a mile away for roams beside the river. Shepherd's hut (family)

Liked: Everything was spotless - possibly the cleanest campsite we’ve ever stayed at! Great welcome too. Lovely location near a farm with good star gazing and river walks. Cider farm nearby was interesting and their perry delicious.

Disliked: We disliked nothing really, just be aware that you need to drive to any shops or places to eat.

Liked: Absolutely stunning views and scenery!
Lovely welcome from the owner who was very helpful and couldn’t do more for you.
Perfectly clean site and showers.
Cider farm pretty much next door.
Very nice walk to the Severn takes about 40 mins each way.

Disliked: More of a pointer than dislike as we booked for remote and peaceful.
The site is a long way from anything so make sure you have everything you need or can make do but to add again this wasn’t a negative for us as we wanted to be as remote as possible for a chilled weekend

Less than 20 minutes’ drive from the Forest of Dean, this is a solid base for ticking off tourist attractions, taking part in outdoorsy pursuits and shopping in market towns. The Dean Heritage Centre is 15 minutes away for planning wooded walks and more ambles can be had at the National Trust’s Westbury Court Garden in around 10. Other landscapes to lope around in the local area include Lydney Park, a 17th-century country estate with Roman ruins, within a 20-minute drive. If kids start to tire of staying on solid ground, they can take on an adventure course above the treetops at Go Ape (15 minutes' drive); other spots to suit small sorts include the Forest of Dean Sculpture Trail (20 minutes) and the Forest of Dean Adventure Park (30 minutes). Above-ground adventures complete, seek subterranean times at Clearwell Caves (25 minutes), then glide about at your own leisure in a canoe hired from Symonds Yat (35 minutes).

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.

Changes to your holiday

Bookings cannot be amended within 2 day(s) of arrival.

Dogs

Guide dogs are allowed on site free of charge.

Extras

Motorbike(s) can be brought instead of the car(s) included.

General

Bookings are nominative and non-transferable.
Bookings must not be for more than 28 consecutive nights.
In the event of a complaint, please speak to reception immediately. Complaints which are not brought to the management's attention during your stay cannot be dealt with once you have left the site.
Quiet hours must be respected between 9 p.m. and 9 a.m..
Radio, music and TV players must be kept at a low volume. Car doors and boots must be closed quietly.

Hired accommodation

Firearms are not permitted.
Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

Vehicles
