  • Peaceful caravan site with electric hook-ups on a Gloucestershire farm
  • Malvern Hills 20 minutes’ drive; Cotswold Farm Park 45 minutes
  • Tewkesbury pubs and shops 10 minutes’ drive
Hankering after a peaceful Gloucestershire hideaway, but needing plenty of things to entertain the kids nearby? You might have hit lucky with Chaceley Hall Farm, a rural site set up for camper vans and caravans, 10 minutes’ drive from pretty Tewkesbury and close to all manner of family attractions in the Cotswolds. A well-maintained access track leads across the farm to the level grass camping field, with some pitches partially shaded by nature trees, and others looking over crops in surrounding fields. Electric hook-ups are available, and there’s a simple toilet and shower block on the edge of the site. There's also a relaxing one-acre lake on site with plenty of wildlife and a small number of roach; guests are welcome to fish free of charge. Wherever you pitch up, there are views to the distant Malvern Hills in the distance – they are just 20 minutes’ drive away, so you, the kids and any accompanying dogs can soon be out exploring rural tracks. If you’re going down the self-catering route, head into Tewkesbury to pick up supplies from the supermarkets – otherwise you can while away an evening or two in one of the town’s historic, half-timbered pubs.

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked: We took our 10-year-old granddaughter to Chaceley Hall Farm for a last minute, one-night mini adventure. As we live nearby, this was a short but sweet getaway in our Defender with a roof tent for myself and granddaughter and a pop-up tent for my partner and our dog.
If you're not local, the site, although remote, is within easy reach by car of plenty things to see and do nearby.
It’s a small site (around 10 pitches), set right in the middle of nowhere – perfect if you’re looking to relax and switch off.
We loved that dogs are welcome (with clear rules about no dangerous breeds – reassuring).
The fishing lake was the main draw for us, and while we didn’t get so much as a bite, it’s a lovely area with benches to sit and take in the surroundings. With some TLC, the lake has real potential to be a standout feature.
Clean toilets, hot shower, and electric hook-ups available.
A peaceful spot with farm animals and produce for sale – just wish we’d remembered to buy some!
Would happily return for the quiet and the setting.

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked: Being the first weekend of opening for the season the site at max was half full (12 pitches in total), they are very spacious.
Site consists of a male and female toilet with a shower. Waste disposal and recycling bins and general waste.
You can purchase home grown meats
The site itself was very peaceful with a footpath running through the adjoining field. We were lucky enough to be overlooking the pigs and experience their way of live. All in all a peaceful retreat although Tewkesbury not to far away

Disliked: Nothing to do with the campsite, we experienced a rather fast car on the way out on the winding single track part of the road, although we were travelling at a snails pace had to do an emergency stop

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked: Location, the sunset and walks around. Owners were both friendly and helpful. I had a flat tyre which needed replacing. They recommended the mobile tyre company they use and let me stay on till it was sorted. It was a small field with only a few pitches occupied which was nice and quiet for me. One of the others staying was very friendly and helpful - he was there with the family for two weeks. I didn't use the shower but it looked nice.

Disliked: I can't think of anything.

Local attractions

So, the kids need entertaining. First stop may well be Cotswold Farm Park (45 minutes’ drive) to see rare-breed sheep, mini Shetland ponies and curly-horned Highland cattle. Head for Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens to meet rare lemurs, rhinos and stately giraffes, and there’s plenty of watery fun to be had sailing dinghies or paddleboarding on the lakes at Cotswold Water Park (both about an hour’s drive). For active families, the Forest of Dean (35 minutes) is a hub of outdoor sporty action, with cycling routes – hire bikes from Forest of Dean Cycle Centre (45 minutes) – rock climbing at Symonds Yat (35 minutes) and long-distance walks along Offa’s Dyke (an hour). Additional challenging walks and cycle rides can be found in the Malvern Hills (20 minutes). On a grown-ups day out, browse shops and bars lining the Georgian docks at Severn-riverside Gloucester (25 minutes), or have a wander around the cute, half-timbered buildings in Ledbury (20 minutes). As well as walks and boat trips along the Severn and Avon rivers, Tewkesbury (10 minutes) has fine stained-glass windows in its famed cathedral, and a thriving theatre scene if you fancy a night out.
