  • Premium-quality glamping with views of Gloucestershire’s Slad Valley
  • A 10-minute drive to Stroud for direct trains from London Paddington
  • Views over racehorses in the fields
There’s something rather special about Steanbridge Farm, a smashing spot for a romantic mini break amid gorgeous Goucestershire countryside. Surrounded by fields full of sheep and racehorses, the glamping units here are absolutely top-notch, with clever designs and private seating areas overlooking Slad Valley. It’s all in the detail here: these bijou properties are built with the words ‘cosy’ and ‘luxurious’ in mind. You can pick up gourmet supplies at local farmers’ markets, or in the nearby towns of Stroud (10 minutes' drive), but if you’d like a break from the kitchen (even one as well-equipped as these), there’s a warm welcomed good food to be had in the traditional pub in Slad (best to book in advance). Out and about, stretch your legs on the Laurie Lee Wildlife Way, which runs through the valley, or get out on the Cotswolds Way in less than 15 minutes. A mainline rail service runs from London Paddington to Stroud in 90 minutes, so Steanbridge Farm makes a great base for couples’ weekends away from the city.

Local attractions

Author Laurie Lee lived in his beloved Slad Valley, and today you can follow in his footsteps along the Laurie Lee Wildlife Way, with direct access from the farm. Rambling paths on the Cotswolds Way (15 minutes’ drive) snake through typically soft-stone Cotswolds villages, where you’ll come upon traditional pubs, thatched houses and (if you arrive on the right day) even the odd duck race. If you’d like to explore further afield, there are lots of pretty villages and market towns within striking distance. Painswick (15 minutes) holds an award-winning farmers’ market every Saturday morning and a weekday covered market for all your foodie treats, and Stroud (10 minutes) is packed with indie art galleries. For more lively action, Cheltenham (30 minutes) is a good option. This elegant Regency spa town holds year-around festivals and events, and has plenty of boutiques, bars and restaurants. Things really comes alive in Cheltenham Week, held in March and one of the biggest events in the horse-racing calendar.
