  • Bell tents on a small family-run site in the Forest of Dean
  • Within walking distance of pubs, bike hire and the Dean Forest Railway
  • Access to woodland walks; private firepit and outdoor seating provided
All set to stroll around the Forest of Dean at your pleasure? As a guest at Under The Oaks Glamping, you'll get to finish the day with a drink next to the firepit before a cosy sleep. Small and family-run, Under The Oaks Glamping is a bell tent site in a two-acre meadow in the Forest of Dean. The brook trickling through the centre of the site is just one of the easy-on-the-eyes features, alongside a wildlife pond and the surrounding woodland. Finely furnished, the five-metre bell tents each sleep up to four guests. Spend the night in a double bed (with bedding provided), settle in to read your book or magazine on the comfortable seating and pour your morning drink using the kettle, mugs and basic tableware provided. A lot is provided here, but you'll want to pack drinking water, a torch, towels and extra blankets in case it gets chilly. A camera will be handy to capture pictures of wildlife or moments around your private firepit. Firepits and logs are available for a small fee per night, and you’re welcome to bring disposable barbecues to use in the designated area. From the meadow, there are gorgeous woodland walks to a country pub (a few minutes' walk) and the Parkend village shop and café (20 minutes’ walk). Two more country pubs are 20 minutes’ walk away (in Parkend), and a station for the Dean Forest Railway is just five minutes’ walk away. The Forest of Dean has spectacular mountain biking trails stopping at several picnic sites such as Mallards Pike, Cannop Ponds and Beechenhurst; a bike hire shop and café are just 15 minutes’ walk away. Additional facilities on site include shared toilets, showers and a washing-up area.

Local attractions

There’s plenty to sink your teeth into in the Forest of Dean and the nearby Wye Valley whether you’re here to go walking, cycling or picnicking. In the Wye Valley, take a canoe down the river Wye, gawp at Tintern Abbey (25 minutes’ drive) and take in the stunning views from Symonds Yat Rock (15 minutes) for river bend views. Stroll around Lydney Harbour (15 minutes) to warm up for activities such as Go Ape, which has two local destinations. Go Ape Beechenhurst (10 minutes) is the most elaborate, with a café and park. Look out for badgers and deer between the twisted trees of Puzzlewood (10 minutes), before wandering through the mining chambers at the Clearwell Caves (10 minutes). If you fancy a couple more historic sites, you could take a steam train ride on the Perrygrove Railway Adventure (10 minutes) or look at the dungeon and ‘murder holes’ at Goodrich Castle (25 minutes).

Bell tent

Liked: Booked a last minute trip, called the host and they forwarded over contact details via email and very easy to get in touch with. It was such a lovely atmosphere, accommodating hosts, brought us marshmallows and an extra blanket as it was to be chilly that evening. Definitely recommend, lovely environment, pretty pond they may only be starting out but they have such a beautiful set up. Can absolutely tell they enjoy camping themselves and is reflected in their presentation. Thank you very much

Bell tent

Liked: Brilliant hosts, who went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The site is clean, tidy and private, and the tent was very comfortable and cosy, with lovely added touches such as flowers from a local flower farm, and wood and marshmallows! Lots of wildlife to see including a visit from some wild forest of dean pigs. Great location to explore the area and the hosts have lots of information and local knowledge.

Disliked: You do hear some noise from the road and local industrial estate, but we still had a very peaceful stay and it wouldn't put us off returning.
