The thames head inn, between cirencester and tetbury
There's plenty of greenery around the site

  • Peaceful site on the edge of the Gloucestershire Cotswolds
  • 10 minutes’ drive from the towns of Cirencester and Tetbury
  • In the grounds of the Thames Head Inn bar-restaurant
Stunning landscapes, scenic market towns and the peace and quiet of the Cotswolds… How could you say no to that? At family-friendly site The Thames Head Inn, four miles from Cirencester market town in the Gloucestershire Cotswolds, you definitely won't want to miss the chance. Thames Head is well-placed for exploring the spectacular Cotswolds on foot or by bike – the start of the Thames Path, which follows the world-famous river for 184 miles from source to sea, is half a mile from the site, and there are loads of cycles tours and walking routes starting in Cirencester and Tetbury, both within 10 minutes’ drive of the site. If that's not your scene, kick back on the dog-friendly site in the shade of the trees, soaking in the scenic and peaceful Cotswolds countryside, or take a relaxed stroll through the fields with Rex. Worked up an appetite? The site is in the grounds of the Thames Head Inn bar-restaurant, where food is served well into the evening and the drinks keep flowing until closing (remember to book a table, as mealtimes can get very busy). If you fancy fending for yourself, pick up supplies in Cirencester or Kemble – a 20-minute walk away – and fire up the barbecue. For a change of scenery – and menus – there are plenty of restaurants within 10 minutes of Thames Head.

Electric gravel touring pitch (large)

Liked: What a find. Lovely little site, 11 pitches at the rear of great pub. Beer and food excellent. Electric, fresh water and somewhere for grey and black water. No drain to drop grey water so you’ll need a hippo, if not there is on at the site but you’ll need the key from the pub to borrow it. Close to Cirencester and within walking distance of Kemble but you do have to cross busy road. If you don’t have your own there is one toilet and shower for use. All in all lovely site at very reasonable rate. Would definitely stay again.

Liked: I cannot praise the Thames Head enough the pitch was delightful the site small but definitely bijou. The food in the pub itself was fantastic and even catered for our 3 furry babies with treats on the bar. The staff were wonderful, nothing was too much trouble. We were so impressed we have booked again for Easter and extended our stay and this will be top of our list for a long weekend not too far from home.

Disliked: Absolutely nothing to dislike

Electric gravel touring pitch (large)

Liked: Warm welcome, great service and food at pub to takeaway to pitch, flat, spacious motorhome pitches with grass between pitches and large picnic area in the centre. Small site. Lovely walk straight from pitch through fields without needing to walk along a road. Perfect in every way and great value.

Liked: Loved the staff and the cosy location. Food in the pub was good and lovely atmosphere. The site is small but very private and a great location for a night or two

Disliked: Wished there was more than one shower/toilet as there can be a bit of a wait in the mornings!

Got kids trailing along? Get the best of both worlds at Cotswold Wildlife Park and Garden – meet the giraffes, lions and camels, then wander through the gardens at the Victorian manor house. If that’s not hitting the spot, take the kids to learn more about the Romans at Corinium Museum in Cirencester or give them Harry Potter vibes on the Swindon and Cricklade steam railway.
