  • Family site on an organic farm 10 minutes’ drive from Cirencester
  • Chedworth Roman Villa 25 minutes’ drive; Cotswold Farm Park 35 minutes
  • Off-grid; well-stocked licensed shop and café; ebike hire
Once you arrive at Abbey Home Farm, 10 minutes’ drive from Cirencester, there’s absolutely no need to move off the site for the duration of your Gloucestershire stay. Why would you ever leave this 1,600-acre farm? Let’s start with the stunning views over Cotswolds fields, and move on to the organic farm shop packed with home-grown fruit and veg. It also sells dairy produce and meat from the farm cows for barbecues (bring your own from home), and – even better – it’s licensed too. There’s also a popular café that's just the spot for coffee to kick-start the day, plus homemade cakes and veggie lunches. All of this is within a 10- to 15-minute gentle stroll of the remotest holiday spots within the farm's woodlands and fields. The farm site is off-grid, with simple facilities including drinking water straight from a farm borehole, washing-up sinks, gas showers and compost loos tucked into the woods. And to top that, everything is crafted from reclaimed or recycled materials. There are wheelbarrows to roll gear in should you need it, as the pitches are spread all over the farm. Just one thing to remember: this site is not party central, so no noise after 10pm please.

Green Field non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The wild flower camping area was amazing we had pyramidal orchids on our pitch and a hare walk past the tent one morning. Site was very peaceful.

Disliked: Composting toilets were a bit smelly but it was very hot so to be expected

Liked: Very easy to book this site and then good directions to find it and smooth check in.
I pitched my tent in the wild flower area with pitches clearly marked and well spaced apart.

Loved the layout of the showers and toilets in the wooded area.
I enjoyed a thoroughly peaceful stay.

Green Field non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Location, farm shop, pitches, view

Disliked: No hot water to wash up and showers although they were beautifully located in the woods, they were boiling hot and didn't feel like ,y children could use them for fear of being scalded. Fine for adults and I’m not complaining for myself just to make children especially young children aware.

Green Field non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: What an amazing place to stay. The scenery was spectacular, the food fantastic, and the facilities, although basic, were clean and more than sufficient for my stay. I’ve always been interested in organic produce which was in abundance in the shop, and the self same produce being served up in the cafe. If you have a dog this is not the place for you. However, although I’m a dog lover, it was nice not to have to deal unruly dogs and their owners. Will most definitely be back.

Green Field non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Booked for a father daughter post-SATS overnight camp. Easy check-in at the farm shop, with very friendly and helpful staff. Check in was quick, with a nice little map to help us get to the site by car (access is via a gate set further down the main road). Offered fire pit hire without having to ask, £12 for a fire pit and bag of wood that lasted us the evening. Getting to the gated access and onto the site was very easy, we chose to pitch up the main field, no cars allowed on the field but wheelbarrows made moving our kit easy - and we could pitch up where we liked, plenty of space. This is a back to basics experience, a which is clear in the description - loos were clean, washing area was useful, we didn’t make use of the showers but they were as described. Great view from our tent across the fields, great sunset, big night sky! Ideal for what we wanted. Short walk to the farm shop through the woods, we popped back after setting up and picked up some ice creams - again very attentive staff, asked if we had set up ok and had everything we needed - greta service! Thanks for a great stay!

Disliked: My daughter wasn’t a fan of the composting loo - but it’s not for everyone!

Local attractions

Keen to explore the area on two wheels? Rent a bicycle from Cotswold eBikes on site, and set off down quiet rural roads to pretty villages built of mellow stone in the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (20 minutes’ ride). If you’ve got kids on board, make for the lakeside beach and floating inflatables at Cotswold Country Park and Beach (40 minutes), or let them burn off more energy on paddleboards and kayaks at Lake 32 Outdoor Centre (35 minutes). When only cuddling animals will do, it’s time to head to Cotswold Farm Park (35 minutes’ drive), to bottle-feed lambs, baby goats and piglets, see rare-breed farm animals and take tractor rides. In search of a bit of Cotswolds history? You’ll find it among the fourth-century AD Roman ruins at Chedworth Roman Villa (25 minutes’ drive), where you can admire ornate floor mosaics and the Roman version of central heating. If your interest is piqued, you can see more local Roman finds at the Corinium Museum (10 minutes), which has fine displays of sculpture, mosaics and jewellery.
