Flat and level mown area

  • Peaceful site on a mown field overlooking pasture and woodland
  • On the edge of the Peak District; Chesterfield 20 minutes' drive
  • Spacious site with small number of pitches; local produce available
Unthank Lane Farm is a peaceful campsite set on a working farm in rural Derbyshire. Located right on the edge of the Peak District National Park and 20 minutes' drive from Sheffield or the historic town of Chesterfield, this spacious spot has a small number of pitches and lots of space between them. The main camping area is located in a mown farm field, where flat and level land makes pitching up easy. There is a hot shower, toilet and mains water supply here for guests, and some local produce may be available depending on when you're around. Around the farm, you're likely to see a good deal of agricultural activity, plus the resident cows with their calves. Getting around and about off-base is easy too, as the farm is well-connected to local footpaths and cycle routes in the national park. This peaceful site is in the small village of Holmesfield, the centre of which is just under two miles up the road. Head here to try out one (or all) of the local pubs, or to take the kids to blow off steam at the village play area.

Meteor bell tent (basic)

Liked: Friendly welcome, large bell tent with hessian flooring on level ground, use of picnic bench and fire pit in quiet countryside, off the beaten track. First time camping in years, and would definitely come back!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Friendly, family run campsite - owners were welcoming and helpful.
Only a small campsite, but still plenty of space per pitch and the farm is set within marvellous little valley that feels remote but surprisingly accessible to/from nearby Sheffield/Dronfield.
Fairly basic but perfectly good facilities.
Seemed quite happy for us to have a bit of an explore round the farm, showing the kids the tractors and animals etc

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Lovely small and quiet site, in a really pretty setting surrounded by fields and woodland. Simple facilities: portaloos, at the top of the field away from the tents, and kept very clean, plus two adjacent sheds, one with a shower and the other with a sink for hands/washing up. Designated pitches, which are well spaced out around the edge of the field, so there’s lots of room around each tent. Nice owners, who pointed out where we should pitch then largely left us to ourselves other than a brief hello when we headed out.

There are barn owls somewhere nearby, we heard them in the night, an added bonus :)

Meteor bell tent (basic)

Liked: The camping field is in a beautiful setting surrounded by trees. It's 5 minutes drive off the main road through Dronfield so it's easy to get to but also quiet. I arrived to a ready pitched bell tent that was clean and spacious. The facilities included portaloos, outdoor sink for washing up and hot shower, all immaculately maintained. There was a fire pit available and you could buy wood from the campsite. The bell tent also comes with a wooden picnic bench so you don't necessarily need to bring chairs and a table.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The owners are so lovely, it was my first time camping alone and they were brilliant! Pub is half a mile away, location is quiet and peaceful. Camp site is basic (exactly as advertised) but has 2 portaloos and a porta-shower which was hot and powerful and very clean so perfect! If I could give it 6 stars I could :D

Disliked: Nothing to dislike
