  • Scenic caravan site set in 50 acres’ worth of lakes and woodland
  • On the edge of the Peak District, a 20-minute drive from Bakewell
  • Dog-friendly and adults-only spot with seven fishing lakes and a café
Flock to 50 acres of wildlife-rich woodland and lakes for an escapade to the eastern edge of the Peak District National Park at Barlow Country Club. Whether you want to unwind or explore, this Derbyshire destination has you covered – being an adults-only site, it’s a few notches more peaceful than your average park and has tons of space for chilling out or having a wander amid nature. There’s also a café serving food all day for relaxed meals on base, plus a couple of pubs – and a coffee shop and a gift store – are a 15-minute walk away in the centre of Barlow. Bites can be grabbed in between carp fishing and coarse fishing at the seven lush lakes on site (and lessons are available if you’re new to the sport). For trout fishing, there is a spot 25 minutes' drive away. Those keen on kicking it around top Peak District tourist spots while here might like to take the 20-minute drive to stately homes like Chatsworth House and famed villages such as Bakewell. The park is also 25 minutes from Ladybower reservoir for roams around spectacular spots like the Upper Derwent valley. Walks are, of course, cracking on site as well with 50 acres to adventure around. Guests can also drag the dog along on dawdles as Barlow Country Club is a pet-friendly place.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Possibly the biggest and most private pitch we have ever had. Great views from our pitch. Loads of paths and bridleways within walking distance, bonus, a really nice pub at the top of the lane. We had an accident while we were there (nothing to do with the campsite) Jez and Joanne could not have been more helpful. 5 stars is not enough

Disliked: No facilities

Peaceful

Disliked: Country club is a large stretch of the imagination. Long muddy walk to cafe'on site' only open 10/2 not all day as described. Told only access is by foot but it is a 2 min drive going other way. Food took 40 mins even tho not many customers. Seems to be the priority here is for fishing rather than caravan site. Large building site on entry. Toilet disposal place was extremely dirty. couldn't sit near waters edge as told only fishermen allowed on the bank and no beaches to sit on

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Goodness me! GIANT pitches, quite week, a range of decent countryside walks, fishing (if you're into it) looked impressive, amazing cafe with great food, and finally it was cheap as chips. No lights on site meant we enjoyed full starry night sky's which we didn't expect given the proximity of Sheffield and Chesterfield. Our dogs and us had a great time.

Disliked: So why not 5*. Well you have to be picky, but the Elsan Point needed a simple hook for the water hose. That's it!

A toilet/shower block would destroy the site as it would quickly become too popular, so happy to rely on our own resources.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Privacy of pitches

Disliked: This site was really expensive considering there were no amenities. No toilets, no showers and dont be fooled, this IS NOT a country club, its a converted car park in the middle of a small town. There are a couple of fishing pools/lakes but nothing to suggest Country Club (or my expectations of). This is not as in the country side as you think. There are no amenities and considering the prices it was expensive. (yes there was electricity but no toilets, showers or even a security gate) - we paid £60 for two nights.

We travelled out in the MH during the day but had to find clever ways to make sure our pitch didnt get taken by new people - thankfully as we went so early in the season this wasnt too much of an issue. We wont book to go back, we will go to the area, but will find another site.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Very large grass and hardening pitches, very private. Pub up the road 5 mins walk, good round walk through fields and fishing ponds. Cafe at the fishing ponds but didn’t buy from there. Very quiet great for a weekend break

Disliked: Not really a dislike as early season but shop/onsite facilities not open. Didn’t spoil anything.

Local attractions

Checking out Chatsworth House (20 minutes’ drive) is a must while you’re here – this stately home is set in vast parkland edged by woodland, craggy hills and heather moors, so it’s an excellent choice for explores on foot. Inside the posh pad is a sizeable collection of art, ranging from Old Masters' drawings to neoclassical sculptures. Bakewell – yes, home of the tasty tarts – is also a sweet spot for a stroll thanks to having old cottages, tiny alleys and tucked-away courtyards to totter around, as well as a river to roam beside (20 minutes). If you’re an eager trekker seeking more of a challenge, mosey along the Monsal Trail starting from Coombs Viaduct, a mile south east of Bakewell, and leading 8.5 miles to Topley Pike junction in Wye Dale, passing by Peak District hotspots like Headstone Viaduct, Cressbrook Mill and Litton Mill enroute. Further on (around 50 minutes) are other popular places for pottering around, like Dovedale valley with its wooded ravine and the 517-metre Mam Tor hill near Castleton, christened one of the Seven Wonders of the Peak by 17th-century philosopher Thomas Hobbes because of its dreamy views.
