  • Small site in the Peak District National Park
  • A short drive from the famed spa town of Buxton
  • A 40-minute drive from Alton Towers; donkey sanctuary next door
Peaceful times in the Peak District National Park are pretty much a given at scenic and small Greystones Nawab Camping and Touring, with its first-rate views over green countryside. But add in proximity (an easy seven miles) to the famed Peak District spa town of Buxton and it's fairly safe to say that holidays of a highly relaxed nature are very much on the cards… Those of a more active disposition (alongside spa days, this is also recommended around these parts) have hiking, walking, cycling, pony trekking, climbing and paragliding all close by, as well as a Go Ape centre within a mile for woodland antics. For family days, the caves of Poole’s Cavern are just outside Buxton, the Peak Wildlife Park is half an hour away and Alton Towers is within 40 minutes. A donkey sanctuary is next door to the site. Greystones Nawab is a grassy and peaceful site in a wildlife haven, and is motorcycle, family and dog friendly. It has showers, three toilets, a washing-up area and charging facilities. Wifi is available near the main house. Please note that the site keeps peacocks and rare-breed chickens.

Non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: NOTHING TO LIKE. THE PLACE IS DISGUSTING

Disliked: we booked up at £20 then after we had booked the price had changed to £15 . On arrival we rang the we number on the gate Man said pitch 5 then changed to pitch 1 we have a 5.9m campervan the place is in a terrible state of condition . Hard standing consist of two chalk stone strips where you put your wheels on and only just wide enough. Therefore when getting out of the van you would stand in thick mud like a cattle field . We tried to park as required but couldn’t as kept getting stuck in the mud . Pathway to toilets was like a cattle field deep mud . We decided that this site was more like a cattle field and we chose not to stay here . This shouldn’t be allowed to advertise as a campsite . It’s more of a swamp We only wish we had taken pictures to show others how bad it really is

Non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: Easy to find using address.

Disliked: On the night we arrived at this campsite the first thing we noticed was the amount of mud…and I mean thick, wet, mud which you can’t miss or avoid walking from the pitch to the toilet block. Our boots were absolutely caked. The toilets are so small and cramped that if you were of a larger physical build then these would be almost inaccessible to use. The morning we departed we were unfortunate enough to get our camper stuck in the mud surrounding the hard standing pitch. I phoned the number on the advertisement board as there was no answer to the number provided on the booking confirmation. The gentleman who answered was of no help at all, explaining there was nothing he could do because he’d already left the site. Now, I know there might in fact have been nothing he could do physically due to not being there however, he made no attempts to help contact anyone else manning the business in his absence, a friend or offer his support in any shape or form. I would have expected more considering we paid to stay at this campsite. We were lucky enough to get in contact with a local farmer who was able to bring his 4x4 vehicle and assist us without any hesitation at all.

From the manager: Sorry to hear about your experience

How could you possibly miss the hardstanding? then blame others for your bad driving
I told you not to go on the grass explained to you very clearly heavy rain lately and ground was not good
And what ever happened to driving with care and attention
When you phoned you were very embarrassed and told me that you missed the hardstanding and ended up stuck on the grass and I explained I was 30 miles away
Toilets and showers
are purpose made professionally by reputable company
I spent nearly £20.000
You have made mess off the field I am the one who is not happy

Excellent site will definitely be returning

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Nice little campsite in the peak district with no frills. Good shower and toilet facilities. Added bonus of donkeys in the adjacent field 😂 great communication with owner but generally left to crack on. Would absolutely visit again. Cracking place for a very good price.

Non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: Location, on the main A515 so easy to get to places. Loved the donkeys next door. Lovely pub next door. Owner keen to please. Reasonable price for the site.

Disliked: Black waste disposal was difficult to use as its a domestic toilet set into a pile of concrete, a stretch of 2 feet to reach and not designed for a Thetford amount of waste in one go, so lots of splashback!. No hand soap or way of drying your hands in either the shower cubicle toilet or toilets. Rubbish bins all full, all week and no signage what bin to put things in. Was told to put grey waste in the same black waste toilet but impossible to lift a 40 litre wastemaster 2 feet off the ground. Owner offered to help but both myself and partner couldn't owing to medical issues. More used to a floor grate.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Flat pitches. Cheapest in the area but not exactly a steal. Good location for walking

Disliked: Having arrived, the mobile phone number did not work when I called it, and nobody was answering the landline - also it was far from clear which house to knock at (there is another campsite owned by the pub right next to this one which made it doubly confusing at the time); I had to ring the bell on 3 occasions before somebody finally answered the door and told me where I could pitch. Few bags of rubbish lying about on the site. I didn’t venture into the toilets/showers. Also location displayed on pitchup is Wrong by about 1km which is an issue when on foot, I couldn’t find the place. Would not stay again

Local attractions

Buxton (10 to 15 minutes' drive away) has plenty to do for all ages, including tours around its Georgian architecture and ambles around the award-winning Pavilion gardens. Shopping and nightlife are most plentiful around George Street, the Quadrant and Cavendish Arcade; for kids of a small size, a soft play centre is in town. Kids of all sizes should like going underground at Buxton's Poole's Cavern, a limestone cave surrounded by Buxton Country Park. Take a guided tour among the huge chambers of the caves to hear tales of the Stone Age people, Roman soldiers and medieval outlaws who used them; after that and above ground, there are woodland trails to wander, rabbits and woodpeckers to spot and – possibly of more interest to fatigued grownups – a café serving drinks and hot snacks. Another spa town – again possibly of more interest to fatigued grownups – is at Matlock Bath, 20 minutes' drive away.
