  • Small, modern caravan park in the Peak District National Park
  • A 20-minute drive from Chatsworth Estate and 10 minutes from Buxton
  • Award-winning pub within walking distance
A small, modern and well-kept site, within easy reach of Buxton and Bakewell and a short walk from an award-winning pub – Farditch Farm is quite the Peak District pleaser. This friendly park in the village of Chelmorton is the place to settle for a little while if you seek your own space; valuing quality over quantity, the owners have elected to set up just a handful of pitches, each one spacious and surrounded by landscaping for the dual win of privacy and pretty colour. There's also good vehicle access, although the site is quite close to a busy road and does experience some traffic noise. Facilities have been limited to the essentials to maintain an uncrowded vibe. But what essentials they are – the smart central facilities building has a cosy lounge area and communal kitchen, and the adjacent toilet block has all mod cons, including plenty of showers, an accessible bathroom and handy touches including hairdryers. A cycle storage area is available on request, with secure storage and bike wash point. Skipping out from the site you can your pick from rural rambles on the miles and miles of trails that network the Peak District National Park, sampling the puddings in Bakewell and taking the waters in the spa town of Buxton. Pick up your eats at Chatsworth’s farm shop, 20 minutes’ drive away, or wander down to the local pub, the Church Inn, to see why it’s picked up awards for its offerings (tasty food and a fire by which to sup your pint, perchance?)

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Pitch offering and the facilities including the enclosed dog field. All clean and tidy. Self check in and out so did not see any staff.

Disliked: No onsite shop or local shop but aware of this before booking so our choice but would make this place even better!

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Absolutely great site in the lovely Peak District. The site is immaculately kept and the staff professional, friendly and helpful. I actually commented to a member of staff that we thought the innovative communal living room area and kitchen was a great idea (we used this both days). We loved the 24 hour nature of the facilities and the fact that on day two we could vacate the pitch then simply move my campervan, go out for a day of cycling and use the facilities after - brilliant. Will definitely be back.

Disliked: Not exactly a dislike, but the hardstanding material I found almost impenetrable with rock pegs and drill when securing the awning down - very unusual. Next time I will take a wider section of rock pegs and try to hammer in. This certainly would not put me off, may help you first time around.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: The toilets, showers and communal areas were spotless and had everything needed.
Lovely walks from the site.
WiFi could cut out but would take a second to reconnect.

Disliked: The noise from the road (we read about this before but didn't realise just how noisy and how close to the busy main road we'd be). We chose a hard standing pitch but there was no grass around and we felt like we were staying in a carpark. The site is surrounded by fields so not sure why whoever designed the place decided to cram the pitches into a concrete space. Just lacked atmosphere.

From the manager: Thankyou for your review. We are glad you liked the facilities and also the local walks. We are sorry you felt the site lacked atmosphere. We have the lack of grass as we can be very unfortunate with the weather and it can cause issues, although I'm glad to say you we're spoilt with beautiful weather for your stay.

Electric hardstanding and grass campervan pitch (no awning, small)

Liked: Great facilities with superb showers, sinks and toilets with modern lighting. Super kitchen area and lounge with TV.

Read on previous reviews on issues with road noise but I didn’t find this on my stay.

There was some light traffic early evening but nothing to spoil a good night’s sleep for me.

Wi-fi signal was weak (only one bar) but 4G was working so not an issue really. Was probably where I was parked and perhaps my phone.

It’s not the biggest site but that’s part of its charm and there are holiday cottages to rent in the grounds.

The grounds are very nice and it’s a lovely location with great views and just a ten minute drive into Buxton.

It’s obvious the owners take real pride in this site which is reflected in its upkeep and the cleanliness of its facilities.

I’ll certainly be staying again at some point in the future.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike, loved the place.

Electric hardstanding and grass campervan pitch (no awning, small)

Liked: The views were stunning. The shower/toilet block was clean and warm and easily accessible. Took a two hour walk right from the farm and it was amazing (one small part was very steep but we managed ok) Went for dinner at the Church pub in Chelmorton (20 minute walk away) it was tasty pub grub. Took a 15 minute drive to a lovely village called Hartington, another gorgeous walk then lunch in the Devonshire Arms, again pub grub but hit the spot!

Disliked: Nothing to dislike, except we were in pitch 17 and couldn’t find it at first and got no answer from the contact number but we figured it out ok in the end.

Liked: Can not fault this site it was so clean, the amenities was excellent, quiet site with some traffic noise but it states that, which wasn’t a problem. Local attractions

With Chelmorton in the midst of the Peak District National Park, there are heaps of outdoorsy activities within easy reach. Walkers and cyclists have miles of trails to pick from; popular favourites nearby include the Tissington and Monsal trails. Horse riding, canoeing and climbing excursions are also available around the park. And might you fancy pottering around the country’s fave country house? Then it’s off to Chatsworth, 20 minutes from the site – the Italianate stately home has been voted to the top of the polls several times for its fab collection of art, its stunning state rooms and its gorgeous gardens. There’s also a farmyard and playground here for the amusement of smaller visitors. Plan to spend a bit of time in both the local towns of Buxton and Bakewell – the former for its grand opera house and elegant spa town heritage, the latter for poking about in the market and sampling its famed sweet treats (which is better – the tart or the pudding? Well, there’s only one way to settle that debate…)
