  • Adults-only pub site six miles from Buxton and 15 from Ashbourne
  • Easy access to the Tissington and High Peak trails; bike hire nearby
  • Heated amenities; pub, dining room and dog-friendly bar
What a grand site this is. March along to Derbyshire's Duke of York if you're looking for an adults-only Peak District pub site, close to its towns, and with spectacular views of the district and beyond from absolutely every pitch. There's fably easy access from this popular site, as it's on the A515 (adjacent to the Duke of York pub and restaurant), six miles from Buxton, seven from Bakewell and 15 from Ashbourne. Footpaths accessible directly from here lead to the Limestone Way and the Midshires Way, and there's also a gate and ramp on site which provides easy access to the High Peak Trail, yards from the site. Ride your bike down to Parsley Hay to join the Tissington Trail too. Alternatively, Peak District cycling is also within easy reach. The site is a hit in all seasons with folk looking for a Peak District break but with a cosy pub, dining room and dog-friendly bar steps away. (Reservations are recommended for the dining room: just let the team know your preferred time by using the 'Special Requests' section in your booking form. It's also a good idea to check the pub opening times to make sure you'll be able to get a pint when you require one.) Amenities are excellent too: there's a modern and cleanly-kept washroom block with underfloor heating, free hot showers, toilets and a washing-up area, and the site also has disabled facilities and chemical disposal.

Local attractions

Leisure ramblers and hardy hikers alike, get set for days of Peak District outings on foot along the local hiking trails and long-distance paths. Popular picks include the 46 miles of the Limestone Way, running through the White Peak of the Peak District National Park from Castleton south to Rocester in Staffordshire, and the Midshires Way 230-mile path from the Chiltern Hills to Stockport via Northamptonshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. Hikers can also access the Tissington (13 miles) and the High Peak (17 miles) trails close to the pub for a (relatively) easier Peak District wander. Or set off by bike instead via the High Peak Trail at Parsley Hay, three to four miles from the pub and the closest place for bike hire if you haven't brought your own wheels (and for bike repair if need be). From here, the High Peak joins the Tissington Trail; set off on either for scenic rides among Peak District limestone, or pedal further on part of the 327-mile Pennine Cycleway where it meets with the High Peak Trail around Buxton. A stop is at the site if you'd rather get around by bus (one service per day runs to Buxton and Ashbourne), or the folks in the pub can put you in contact with a local taxi firm.

Disliked: The most unwelcoming place ever visited. You felt completely in the way and very unwelcome. The pub, was the biggest letdown and underwhelming experience is an understatement.

Electric hardstanding campervan pitch

Liked: The views and walks were great.
We visited Tagg Lane Diary Farm, there is a cafe and shop, the lemon drizzle cake was delicious.
We visited the pub for Sunday lunch and had a takeaway the night before, both were delicious, home cooked, hearty food.

Disliked: The facilities were a little tricky. The lighting was not effective when trying to navigate your way round the accessing the facilities with the entry pin code if you are partially sighted. Better lighting will definitely help accessing the facilities.

Liked: East to find, walks on doorstep.

Disliked: Expensive pitches next to noisy busy road, toilet facilities were clean and adequate, pub lacked atmosphere, food was good and tasty but nothing to shout about, menu was limited, main courses were reasonably priced but drinks and desserts expensive.

Electric hardstanding campervan pitch

Liked: This is a lovely quiet site, a little out in the sticks but didn't matter.
The owners were very welcoming and pub food was very tasty.
Hot showers.

Disliked: Not much lighting around the pitches, on the gravel etc.
Showers were a bit to high on the walls so hit in the face with water when washing. Not great for Internet connection.
