  • Family-run campsite on a dairy farm in the Peak District National Park
  • Access to Lathkill Dale directly from the site
  • Woodfired pizzas and ice cream sold on site
When you’re keen to get out exploring the Derbyshire Dales, you can’t get much closer to them than Haddon Grove Farm Campsite. This welcoming, family-run caravan and camping site has direct access to spectacular Lathkill Dale from the pitches. Located on a dog-friendly working dairy farm – you are welcome to meet the cows, horses and chickens – with views to the hills and dales of the Peak District National Park, the site was established in the early 1950s and has gone from strength to strength ever since. There are separate fields for family use – with play areas and rope swings – and others for group bookings, ensuring nobody gets disturbed on site. Facilities run to a shower block and wash room, and as barbecues are allowed by the pitches in the camping fields (source any foodie bits in the pretty town of Bakewell, 10 minutes’ drive), firepits can be hired on site. Logs are sold from the small on-site shop, which – more importantly for the kids – also stocks tasty ice cream from a local farm. The site also sells woodfired pizzas, which should be handy if you fancy eating something more substantial.

What customers say

This large, family-friendly campsite set on a working farm offers stunning Peak District views and direct access to Lathkill Dale walks. Visitors praised the spacious, unassigned pitches, friendly owners, and generally clean facilities, including new shower blocks. On-site food vans and a small shop were popular additions. While some noted the distance to facilities and occasional noise from other campers, the overall experience is highly recommended for its relaxed atmosphere and value.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Really really lovely and helpful owners and staff. A very welcoming, safe, clean campsite. Really liked the modern showers and toilets, as well as the food trailers available to purchase from! We were shocked at the amount of fields to choose from to camp in - amazing views and loved the option to choose where you set up. Also hired a fire pit, affordable, easy to collect, worth every penny!

Electric gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Beautiful location
Very clean toilet and shower blocks
Level pitch

Disliked Electric hook up was not adequate - couldn't boil the kettle or use the microwave without it tripping out. (never had this problem elsewhere)
No staff at reception when we arrived and all phone numbers went to answer phone. Received a call back eventually.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked I stayed for a week just after the kids went back to school. At one point I had all the camping fields to myself . At night the distant bleating of the sheep and the cows mooing, owls hooting in the trees, the gentle patter of rain on the tent , and one night a really good thunderstorm. The new shower block is very nice, the showers were nice and clean and the water just about right to wash away aches and pains of the days walking trip. As mentioned i had just about the whole place to myself, I imagined it could get very busy in peak times. Also very handy location, 40 mins out to speedwell caves and a walk over to mam tor, Bakewell and Buxton 15/20 minutes away and Matlock 30 mins or so.
All in all a great place to base a holiday/ weekend away.

Local attractions

Scenic walks are to be had along the namesake river in Lathkill Dale, where you can stride out towards Lathkill Head Cave (an hour and 20 minutes’ walk) or marvel at the clear springs at The Blue Waters near the peaceful village of Over Haddon (35 minutes). For a slightly longer ramble, Arbor Low Stone Circle and Gib Hill Barrow (90 minutes) reward with prehistoric monuments and ancient burial mounds. Combine your stroll around the verdant grounds at Chatsworth House with a guided tour of the mansion’s ornate rooms packed with priceless antiques, or take in the Elizabethan Walled Gardens at Haddon Hall (both 20 minutes’ drive) after you’ve admired the tapestry collection and medieval chapel. For an insight into Peak District heritage, visit the bijou Eyam Museum (also 20 minutes) in the famed ‘plague village’ to learn the story of the Bubonic Plague of 1346–52, or have a wander around the deserted remains of Magpie Mine (five minutes’ drive), which was the last working lead mine in Derbyshire and closed in 1958.
