What a peaceful park this is for Peak District hols – on 11 acres of quiet woodland near the national park and set deep in the Derbyshire countryside with picnic areas peppered all around. And what a pleasing park this is for those who insist on amenities being immaculate and up to date – the toilet and shower block comes with disabled access, baby changing and showers with hot and cold water, and is kept in tiptop condition at all times by the friendly site team. Riddings Wood Holiday Park is a rural park but with easy access to urban centres like Derby and Nottingham as well as to the hikes, bike rides and canters of the Peak District. (If you're a bit bamboozled as to what to do first, have a look at the tourist info point in reception or ask the team for tips.) Campfires are allowed if you need a bit of warming upon return. And finally, what a pint-friendly site Riddings Wood is too – the only thatched-roof pub in Derbyshire, Moulders Arms (aka The Thack), is a short stroll away; and the Seven Stars, a community pub, is just across the road. Liked: Cabin was absolutely spotless on arrival. Has everything you need for your stay, towels, bedding, tea coffee etc.
Hot tub was the perfect temperature. Beautiful setting for the cabins, set back from the main campsite within a small wooded area.
Made to feel very welcome on check in and check out.
Doesn't offer free WiFi but phone signal is 5G and be fair came to get away, so not an issue.

Disliked: Having to come home after an amazingly relaxing 2 days.
If I had to puck something, perhaps a mop in the cabins as you do tend to walk in water & a shame use the lovely fresh white towels supplied.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Good sized pitches. Nice grassed area between units

Park for children was good

Staff friendly even brought easter eggs for kids on site.

Campsite appears well kept

Disliked: Shower block (new) looks lovely but doesn't seem to be able to stay warm. Out of 5 showers we had 4 was unbearably cold.

Explained to reception unfortunately blamed it on gas. Yet didn't seem to be solve over 4 days

Our children couldn't handle the cold and didn't have a good chance of a decent wash.

Elsan toilet empty. Out of order. No swill out hose.

Directed to a drain at toilet block

NO WIFI as advertised.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Play area, location and pitch were quite nice.
Shower and toilet area very clean.

Disliked: Electric hookup for pitch 16 had been incorrectly installed. So reversed polarity.
Spoke to those running the site and although couldn't move pitches offered us their cable. So I could hook up on another pitch with 35m of cable. Which worked fine and solved the issue.

In the morning went to go for a shower but no water to showers and toilets until about 10am when it was back in. No idea on the issue but least it got resolved same day. Just a shame.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Very spacious fully serviced pitch, even had a bench for us to sit out on. Our area of the site was very quiet and the toilet/shower block very clean. Close enough for local shops etc. The wood next to the campsite is perfect for walking the dogs and even has a cut through back onto the bottom of the campsite.

Disliked: Very little to dislike but on two occasions the water in the shower block was lacking. This was dealt with very quickly by the site staff so hopefully it was just a hiccup. Our fully serviced pitch water drain was on the far/opposite side of the pitch and my waste pipe only just reached with my extension.

Liked: The pitch itself was lovely and tidy, we were lucky to not be pitched on the hill.
The toilet/shower facilities were spotlessley clean and warm. The owners were lovely and friendly 😊

Disliked: Unfortunately, the location for us was not the best. There was a lot of road noise throughout the day and in to the late evenings with "boy racer" fast car noises. A lot of back firing exhausts, which wasn't nice for our "gun shy" noise sensitive Labrador.
It's also near to a busy train line so you can hear that noise too.
Also, Unfortunately some people did not follow the rules of "quiet" time after 11, as there was still children running around and screaming at midnight and again waking us up at 3.30am.

Local attractions

To the Peak! The Peak District National Park is but a short drive from Riddings Wood Holiday Park, and has a bit of what you fancy for all ages and inclinations. If you're in the area to hike, there are more Peak District trails than you can shake a (walking) stick at, from the shorter treks of seven or so miles around the upper Dove Valley and Pilsbury Castle, to long-distance paths like the Limestone Way (46 miles), the Derwent Valley Heritage Way (55 miles) or the Peak District parts of the Pennine Way, running for 268 miles from the northern Peak District to just inside the Scottish border. Climbers and cavers also delve into all things Peak: thousands of routes for all abilities are all over the park for climbers, including Burcen Edge for beginners and more hair-raising ascents like Debauchery and Mad Dogs and Englishmen for the severely experienced. If you're of a cavernous disposition, make your way to the village of Castleton and its four show caves, Blue John, the Peak, Treak Cliff and Speedwell Cavern with underground boat trip. Matlock Bath has a cable car to take adventurers to limestone caverns The Heights of Abraham, and Poole's Cavern near Buxton has vast caves to explore before an above-surface walk around Buxton Country Park. Other attractions like Chatsworth House and Gardens and the old Crich Tramway are to hand for the historically-minded, alongside old Peak District villages and market towns for tearooms, restaurants, family pubs and lots of shopping: try Buxton, Ashbourne and Bakewell to start you off. Back at Matlock Bath, let the kids go large at the rides and attractions of theme and play park Gullivers Kingdom for ages two to 13; the 600-acre Matlock Farm Park nearby should keep them busy for a bit too.

Admission

Admission is only permitted after registering at reception.
At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.

Changes to your holiday

Bookings cannot be amended within 14 day(s) of arrival.
Modifications are subject to a £15.00 fee.

Dogs

Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.
Guide dogs are allowed on site free of charge.
The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. XL Bully, Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Motorbike(s) can be brought instead of the car(s) included.

General

In the event of a complaint, please speak to reception immediately. Complaints which are not brought to the management's attention during your stay cannot be dealt with once you have left the site.
Quiet hours must be respected between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m..
Radio, music and TV players must be kept at a low volume. Car doors and boots must be closed quietly.
The management reserves the right to deny access or terminate the stay of those guests whose behaviour is deemed unsuitable. No refunds will be offered.
The site is not liable for any refund in the event of force majeure.

Hired accommodation

Hired accommodation: £150.00 damage/cleanliness/bracelet deposit is required on arrival and will be refunded on departure after inspection of your unit should no damage/losses be found.

Pitches

Minimum spacing of 6 metres between pitches.
You must follow the management directives when pitching your tent/unit and related equipment.

Reception

Reception is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. between 01/01 and 31/12.
Reception is unmanned after 5 p.m.. Please inform the site while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time, so that the team can provide information about your unit/pitch.

Safety

Barbecues are permitted but must be raised off the ground and attended by an adult at all times.
Firearms are not permitted.

Vehicles

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.
No vehicle movement between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m..
Only one car is to be parked by the pitch. Extra vehicles must be parked in the designated area.

Visitors

Visitors’ cars are not permitted on site.
Visitors must leave the premises by 8 p.m..
