Those who value seclusion above all else while on holiday would be advised to make a beeline for Thunder Mountain Camp, a 100-acre, naturist-friendly site on the fringes of Ouachita National Forest, in western Arkansas. What this place has in spades is sublime seclusion – with bells on: the owners welcome just two visitors at any one time (plus their four-legged companions), which makes this a top spot for a romantic break. You can set up anywhere here: in the pine forest, on any of the three levels of decking or right by the water. A gorgeous river runs through the property, and you don’t have to worry about packing your watersports equipment: kayaks, tubes and a paddle boat are all available for guests. Swimsuits may be optional. And with four miles of blissfully private trails, hiking without clothes may be optional too. However, if you do, it would be wise to keep a towel handy and to avoid the edges of the property. The site comes with an outdoor bathhouse with spectacular views of the river and the Ouachita Mountains, which you can soak up while soaking in the antique bathtub. (For a burst of energy in the morning, there’s also a shower.) A separate outhouse has a flushing toilet. Fix yourselves something to eat on the grill on the decking (where there’s also a picnic table with benches), or head to Glenwood (10 minutes’ drive) for assorted global restaurants, fast-food joints and cafés.

  • Les reserves no poden excedir més de 5 nits consecutives.
  • El càmping només admet reserves de famílies (parents pròxims) i parelles. Es refusaran les reserves de qualsevol altre tipus de grup.
  • Per a utilitzar la connexió elèctrica és necessari un cable d'almenys 15 metres.
  • No es permeten les unitats de més de 8 metres de llarg.
  • Es recomana als hostes portar una llanterna de bona qualitat, ja que algunes parts de l'establiment no estan ben il·luminades.
  • Teniu en compte que els lavabos/dutxes són unisex.
  • No hi ha galledes d'escombraries en l'establiment: totes les escombraries han d'emportar-se a casa.
  • No hi ha recepció a l'establiment: a l'arribada, poseu-vos en contacte amb el número que apareix en la confirmació de la reserva.
  • This is a small 'clothes-optional' site (not naturist, but naturist-friendly).

Attractions at Hot Springs (50 minutes’ drive) include the Arkansas Alligator Farm & Petting Zoo, and the Gangster Museum of America, with displays on notorious mid-20th-century outlaws like Al Capone and Lucky Luciano, who were frequent visitors to the casinos of this spa town. Admire views of Lake Ouachita and surrounding forests from Hickory Nut Mountain Vista (50 minutes). The ragged banks of the lake, the state’s largest, are popular with hikers, watersports enthusiasts and anglers, who come to catch bream and catfish. On the north shore is the Jessieville Shooting Range. In Little Rock (one and three quarter hours), MacArthur Park has a military history museum and the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts, with works by Diego Rivera and Paul Signac, and sculptures by Barbara Hepworth. On the Arkansas River, the William J. Clinton Library and Museum documents the life and times of the 42nd President of the United States.
