The team of Camping Puente Nuevo has assessed its surrounding area as a hiker's paradise. And how excellently accurate is this assessment – this peaceful place is among the Sierra Morena on its spectacular 450-kilometre range across the south of the Iberian Peninsula: mountain hikes and mucho more mountain activity are easily had from here.
The site's serene setting is also between the biosphere reserve of the Sierra de Hornachuelos Natural Park on one side and the famed Puente Nuevo reservoir two minutes away on the other – best add cycling, canoeing, birdwatching and wildlife watching to your holiday list… And some delving into Spanish history as well, as Camping Puente Nuevo is a 15-minute drive from the old town and monuments of Villaviciosa de Córdoba, and 45 minutes from weeks' worth of the same at province capital Córdoba.
Camping Puente Nuevo is a green and spacious site, among Mediterranean forest and with – as expected – walking trails leading from it out into the Córdoba countryside (20 kilometres' worth, all prepped and mapped for you by the site team). There's plenty to do to keep you occupied during days on site too: you can play tennis or ping pong, grapple with the climbing wall, or lounge in/around the pool while the kids get fully acquainted with the paddling pool.
The site restaurant is open daily in high season and on weekends in low season, dishing up regional Sierra Morena cuisine using fresh local produce.

Itineraris
From Córdoba take the A-3075 towards Badajoz and come off at Villaviciosa de Córdoba. Continue for approximately 7 kilometres. Just after passing the Dam of the Puente Nuevo Reservoir, look out for a signpost to the site Camping Puente Nuevo, which is along an asphalt lane to the left of the road.

Llocs d'interès
It's only a couple of minutes' drive from here to the handsome waters of the Puente Nuevo Reservoir for canoeing, sailing, rafting and birdwatching; even closer to home, take of the several marked hiking trails from the site through the surrounding forest.
Make for the Sierra de Hornachuelos Natural Park for more hiking as well as cycling and wildlife of many species to spot: deer, wild boar, wolves and lynxes are among the beasties on the ground, and eagles, vultures, buzzards and kestrels up ahead.
Recommended heritage sites nearby include the Guadanuño bridge, dating back to Roman times to make a scenic stroll over the Guadanuño river, and, even more anciently, the waterfalls of Las Chorreras de Orejón, reachable from Villaviciosa de Córdoba. The city of Córdoba is an absolute must, for famed attractions including the Old Town and the Great Mosque of Córdoba, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
