This’ll get tails wagging… Erkemederstrand isn’t just a place that tolerates visiting dogs, it prides itself on being one of the country’s most mutt-friendly sites. There’s plenty of space for them to roam here, in the dog playground or exercise field, or splashing about on their own stretch of the beach. Doting owners can hose them off at the dog shower, treat them to food or toys from the shop and even pick up poop bags free of charge.
It’s not all about furry friends though – much attention has been lavished on facilities for the humanfolk, too. Hours of amusement await kids at the sports fields, miniature golf, air hockey, table tennis, jumping pillow, computer games and petting zoo, and there’s a sizeable play forest and several smaller play areas scattered around the site (within view of the pitches – mighty handy for parental supervision).
And all this before you’ve even got to the beach (a splendid three kilometres of sand right by the site, with shallow waters for safe splashing) or cast your eye over the summer kids’ club programme. Or considered days out taking boat trips from the marina, taking a walk in the Zeewolde forests or visiting local animal parks…
All these antics are bound to work up something of a hunger – one that’s easily sorted by picking up groceries from the on-site shop, picking up a takeaway or bagging a table at the cafeteria (with a dog-friendly terrace of course).

Llocs d'interès
The forests and wetlands around Zeewolde are fab places for a leisurely walk or bike ride (bike hire available on site) – tread quietly and you may spot birds and roe deer as you roam. An hour’s pedalling will take you to Fun Forest Almere, where you can sail through the trees on the woodland adventure course, or you could take a boat trip from the marina next to the site.
For more animal antics, head to Burgers Zoo, the Dolfinarium or Apenheul primate park – all are within a 45-minute drive. Other family-friendly days out within half an hour or so include Walibi Holland theme park and Aviodrome, an aviation-themed museum with more than 100 planes, a 4D film theatre and flight simulators.
Should you fancy a slice of city life, the museums, canals and cafés of Utrecht are around a half-hour drive away, or you could get to Amsterdam in less than an hour.
