It’s not about partying all night to the break of dawn at Camping Miami; rather, this pretty park in the depths of Sicily’s Syracuse region is just the spot for a good ‘ol rest in natural surroundings. It’s circled by flower-filled fields and farmland you might be hard-pressed to tear your eyes away from, with amenities like a communal barbecue area to get you mingling with other guests when you finally do.
If you’re after ingredients for cooking a supermarket is less than a 10-minute drive and pizzerias aplenty can be visited in nearby towns like Pachino the same distance away.
After filling up on food, let the kids loose in the play area back on site while you shield yourself from the Sicilian sun under the many trees. Or get exploring: the park is in a prime location for wanders, being a 12-minute drive from the Oriented Nature Reserve Oasis of Vendicari for both birdwatching and beach access. The Cavagrande is another nature reserve of the same wondrous sort a 50-minute drive away.
Closer to home, you can get settled in on the sands of San Lorenzo within 10 minutes by car or roam further and reach the clear blue waters of Eloro in 25. Right at the tip of the Vendicari reserve meanwhile, a 20-minute drive away, is the Roman Empire's Villa Romana del Tellaro if you're into your age-old history.

Navigate your way to the baroque city of Noto a 25-minute drive from Camping Miami for saunters around the streets, adding the Palazzo Ducezio, Palazzo Nicolaci and cathedral to your itinerary as a mini break from the beach. For even more culture – this is Italy, after all – the necropolis at Monte Finnochieto is a 50-minute drive away.
Syracuse is further up the coast, a 45-minute from the site, for saunters around Ortigia Island, Roman ruins and the Neapolis Archaeological Park before rewarding yourself for all the foot stomping with a tasting at the Azienda Agricola Pupillo winery (5 minutes further along).
Want to see Sicily from an entirely different perspective? Cruise trips slicing through the seas leave a 15-minute drive away from the site in Marzamemi, which also has white sand beaches to treat your toes with after your boat ride.
