A sauna! And a lake – with a beach... And surrounding forests for bike rides in 'the green heart of Germany', and a restaurant with conservatory and lake views... and a UNESCO castle, bike route and cross country ski slopes all within easy reach... what a lush locale has Camping Park Eisenach.
It's probably enough of a pull that Park Eisenach is set in the greenly pretty surroundings of the mountainous Thuringian Forest, but a hol here will also have you on the shores of Altenberger lake, with direct beach access as well as watery activities like swimming, fishing and boating.
You'll def need to get on your bike or motorbike from here too: the state of Thuringia is famed for its lush green forests, and the Eisenach team has mapped out a cycling route through the surrounding woodland, covering part of the Wartburg rally and the Rennsteig-Bergrennen route so experienced riders can have a properly puffed out time.
Back on site, there's a volleyball court and ping pong tables, and an indoor sauna and solarium for a dose of downtime afterwards. Other handy facilities include a small supermarket open daily in high season for foodie essentials and freshly baked bread throughout the year.
If you fancy having your fodder prepared for you by skilful chefs (much recommended), the lakeview conservatory restaurant is a splendid spot for taking in lake views along with local dishes and beer, before a spell out on the terrace for another taste of the regional brew.

Hanging out around the lake and its beach for swimming, sunbathing, fishing and boating will probably be your main port of call for the first few days here; after that, there's loads to see and do in the site surrounds.
For active days out, hire a bike on site for pleasant pedals around the surrounding Thuringian woodlands, or hike around the Luther Trail or Drachenschlucht (Dragon's Gorge), three kilometres away. In winter, zip down the slopes over at Rennsteig a 45-minute drive away, where there's a track of 168 kilometres, 120 kilometres' worth of snowboarding, and loop routes of hundreds of kilometres.
It's a 20-minute drive from the site (or about 50 by bike if you're feeling fit) to the UNESCO-listed medieval pile of Wartburg Castle, overlooking the town of Eisenach. This historic place was once a refuge for Martin Luther as well as home to Hungarian royalty, and is now one of the most-visited sites in Thuringia. Guided tours are available and there's a museum.
