Your Drôme area dilemma: you really rather fancy a rural retreat where you can put your feet up with a glass of wine and breathe fresh air while gazing out over countryside views. You don’t, however, relish the idea of a lengthy drive each time you want to go out for dinner or need to pop out for bread supplies (or more wine, of course…)
Your Drôme area solution: Camping des Ulèzes, a fab family-friendly site with gorgeous views out over the Herbasse Valley and yet a mere 15 minutes’ stroll from the shops and restaurants of Saint-Donat. This mighty handy location will also see you sorted for heaps of days out: within a half-hour drive there are animal parks, days of horse riding, buggy driving and tree climbing, and tasty outings themed around sampling the area’s chocolate and wine.
Chillout time is sorted too: pitches stretch out to a generous 100 square metres, with water and electrical hookups for each one. An also-generous nine bathroom blocks (oui, nine) are scattered around the site to ensure that it’s never too far to trot to freshen up.
After something more active? The lengthy list of leisure options includes an outdoor swimming pool, a multisports pitch, a bouncy castle, miniature golf, table tennis, pétanque court, playground and a games room with pinball, table football and video games. There’s also a TV room for times when you want to flop out or gather with pals/sworn rivals to watch the big game.

Those high ropes courses set off a desire for more outdoorsy adventures? Strap in for a buggy driving excursion 10 minutes away, or bound across the floating inflatables in a madcap manner at Froggie’s Park (25 minutes). A little more low-key are gentle days of gliding along the Drôme river in a canoe; it’ll take you 45 minutes or so to drive to the nearest launching point.
