If you’re the sort of family whose ideal holiday schedule goes something like ‘beach in the morning, pool in the afternoon’ (or vice versa) you’ll likely be most pleased with the setup of Campotel at Camping Les Genêts. To the beach first? The nearest is a mere 10 minutes’ walk away from this Vendée site, and the sand stretches off into the distance for several kilometres – all the way to Saint-Jean-de-Monts in the north and Saint Gilles Croix de Vie in the south. Both of these buzzy resorts are about 10 minutes away by car if you fancy heading to either for activities, shops and restaurants. And then to the pool… and not just any plain old pool but an entire water complex of indoor and outdoor pools, a lazy river, a paddling pool, 10-metre waterslides, a Jacuzzi, a balneotherapy area with massage benches… For a break from the water, the site also has a brightly coloured playground, a games room, table tennis and a multisports court for games of football, handball, badminton and volleyball. While the kids are drawing breath from that little lot, get them to have a think about what sort of activities they’d like to join in with on site: a resident animateur keeps the entertainment going at Club Buzzy Bee throughout the summer season, and there’s a teens’ club for the older ones to hang in too. When the time comes to eat and drink, take your pick from the bar, restaurant and takeaway, or pick up bits in the site’s mini market to cook meals back at your caravan’s kitchen.

Llocs d'interès

If you find a bit of time to get away from the pool and activity programme, hire bikes on site to head out on the local cycle paths running along the coast, through the woods or out into the marshes a little way inland. You may also like to stop at the mini golf course a few minutes away for a fun round or two. For other activities, there’s horse riding and quad biking a couple of kilometres away, and plenty of watersports to try out in Saint-Jean-de-Monts (10 minutes’ drive away). Youpla Land amusement park and the Atlantic Toboggan waterpark are both a couple of kilometres away for easy days out within cycling distance. You might also like to think about getting up into the treetop trails at Feeling Forest (five minutes’ drive) or pedalling your way along the old railway line at the Vélo-Rail (20 minutes). A little further afield, there are great days out to be had at Le Grand Défi activity park (half an hour) or the excellent Puy du Fou theme park (an hour and a quarter).
