This wonderfully family-friendly base has lots to keep the kids amused, from an outdoor swimming pool to a pétanque court for challenging games with new-found friends, and a playground for youngsters aged under 11 to let off steam.
With free private parking and a secure entrance to the site, each lodge at Camping le Bois Jahan offers a fully equipped kitchen with a coffee machine and microwave so you can keep everyone fed and watered.
A snack bar with a wooden deck for sunny days sits next to reception, and if you need to stock up on essentials for family suppers, there are plenty of vast hypermarkets in Nogent-le-Rotrou (10 minutes’ drive) or Thiron (five minutes). Not into cooking on holiday? No problem – a drive around the quiet back lanes and timeless villages will turn up plenty of cosy auberges offering lunch or supper.

This is something of an outdoors hotspot, with horse riding, golf games and kayak hire within 15 minutes’ drive, plus cycling, fishing and loads of looped hiking opportunities in the Parc Naturel Régional du Perche (half an hour’s drive) with far-reaching views from its high-plateau countryside.
You can also combine family walks with an interest in ancient history by hiking up to the Dolmen de la Pierre Procureuse (half an hour’s drive). Domaine de l’abbaye - Jardins thématiques (10 minutes) also offers gentle strolls in landscaped gardens with the gorgeous backdrop of a medieval abbey.
Medieval Nogent-le-Rotrou (10 minutes) makes a delightful destination for a day’s exploration, overlooked by the imposing ruins of Château Saint-Jean and packed with regional history museums. You might be able to catch classical concerts in Musikaa, and if you’re with the kids, you can treat them to a trip to the water slides and bowling alley at Aquaval family park.
