The town's 400-square-metre park is home to seven natural springs which, around these parts, are said to have medicinal properties. Guests who emerge reinvigorated from their spa bath can serenely make their way to the skating rink or the town's huge lake with pedal boats and kayaks for hire.
Fans of unusual transport will also find plenty of options here: the Teleférico de São Lourenço is a cable car with spectacular vistas (which can also be taken in from the lookout platform), while the retro Trem das Águas (Water Train) runs out of the town’s station and along a scenic stretch of the river Verde down to the nearby town of Soledade de Minas (journey time around two hours).
In need for some nature therapy to disconnect from all those cogs and wheels? Hike up the Montanha Sagrada (Sacred Mountain) that overlooks São Lourenço for hilltop views and big, big skies. Travelling with wee ones in tow? Take them down to the Lagoa Seca activity farm (25 minutes) for hands-on lessons about rural life.
