A stopover on the MT215 state highway or a spot in which to settle for exploring the area’s spectacular scenery… Mato Grosso site Camping Refúgio da Siriema is a place that’s happy to serve several functions.
A few days in this part of the world is ideal, of course, but even those aiming for a quick stop should try not to hit the road with too much haste, for the area’s a most scenic one, with the Chapada dos Guimarães National Park a few minutes’ drive away, and lots of waterfall walks nearby too.
Whether you’re pulling in from an intrepid cross-country drive (on the highway that passes 200 metres away) or getting back from a waterfall walk, it’s likely that you’ll find much to please you at this site in the woods – there’s plenty of shade, fresh air and peace among the native trees, plus fresh water to guzzle from a natural spring. The bathrooms have hot showers to hose off any dust and muck acquired during the day, and the site’s also got a wifi connection for planning your next move/telling the wider world about your last.
For eats, you may like to set up a barbecue for alfresco dining; supplies can be picked up at the supermarket a couple of minutes’ drive/half-hour walk away. A couple of restaurants are within walking distance, and there are plenty more places to eat in the town of Chapada dos Guimarães, five minutes away by car.

Come prepped for hikes galore… In the Chapada dos Guimarães National Park (five minutes’ drive) there are some excellent sights that are best reached on foot. Perhaps a climb to the Morro dos Ventos viewpoint (15 minutes’ drive) to look down from above, or a stroll through the Cidade de Pedra canyon (half an hour) to turn sights in the upward direction.
Waterfalls are big news around here, too: take to the paths to seek out the Cachoeirinha dos Namorados waterfalls (five minutes), or follow the Águas do Cerrado waterfall trail (an hour). If you simply can’t resist diving into fresh water, there’s a natural pool to take a dip in at Estância Fênix (five minutes).
If you’re moving on or craving a bit of city time, take a trip to colonial Cuiabá (55 minutes), where there are museums and a zoo to visit, plus parks to wander around should you decide to seek a bit of shade.
