Wales is hailed as the land of song, so it’s perhaps no surprise to find a busy menu of musical offerings at Llanelli’s Gateway Resort, where weekend evenings and summer nights are spent tapping toes in the company of tribute bands and vocalists. If you’ve been inspired to flex your own vocal cords you can join the singalong on karaoke night (what a treat for your avidly watching family…)
And if you're not a singer (or are the type of singer that induces humans to wince and hounds to howl)? Get your spot in the limelight by shining at bingo or quiz night instead, or determine to make your mark working through the food and drinks menus of the on-site bar-restaurant. This cosy spot is open all day for breakfasts, snacks, pub grub and an extensive range of drinks; it’s also the place to gather round the large-screen TVs when there’s a big match on (especially if it’s Welsh rugby).
Just as much effort has gone into providing plenty of daytime distractions here too – there’s absolutely loads to do at this splendidly-equipped site. Take yourself off to the fishing lake to see what you can land, or splash in the indoor pool (with bubble machine and paddling pool); there are also indoor and outdoor play areas, a miniature golf course and a fab kids’ corner with games, craft activities and a little café.
And just what is the Gateway Resort the gateway to? Well, a good many things indeed – gorgeous beaches, a seaside cycle path, a castle, adrenaline-fuelled activities and farm parks are all nearby.

Llocs d'interès
Bag a berth here and you’ll be within easy reach of some of Wales’ finest beaches – the gorgeous eight-mile stretch of sand at Cefn Sidan is about half an hour away by car, and you can get over to the Gower peninsula easily too (Rhossili Bay, 45 minutes away, is frequently voted one of the world’s best beaches).
If you like to get active, hit the traffic-free cycle path for several miles through the Millennium Coastal Park, swing clubs at the golf course five minutes’ drive away or head to Pembrey Country Park (half an hour away) for horse riding, sand yachting, dry slope skiing and a toboggan run. Those who prefer to spectate may want to see if there’s a rugby match on at Llanelli’s Parc y Scarlets.
For a family-friendly day out, the Llanelli Wetlands Centre is a few minutes’ drive away, and Kidwelly Castle can be reached in half an hour or so. Heatherton World of Activities, Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo and Manor Wildlife Park are all around an hour’s drive away.
