Escapades through Welsh countryside, adventures in the great wide open and boating jaunts through a National Park… At Quarry Lodge Camping, a tiny family-friendly site in south Wales less than five minutes’ drive from the Carmarthenshire village of White Mill and 10 minutes from Carmarthen town, you’re all set for an active getaway. Quarry Lodge is less than half an hour from the edge of Brecon Beacons National Park, where you can live your best outdoorsy life with abseiling, biking, walking, riding, rock climbing, canoeing and rafting or, for a challenge, head for the Brecon Beacons an hour and 45 minutes away. If coastal walks are more likely to put the wind in your sails, head seaward with a jaunt to New Quay, just under an hour from base, to join the Wales Coast Path along Cardigan Bay. When your legs are demanding a rest day, chill out on site – it’s quietly rural and you can put your feet up while taking in views over the spectacular Towy valley. When you’re rested just enough for a stiff-legged walk, meander into White Mill (10 minutes' stroll), the local village. If your feet are still protesting, you can stick around site instead: get that barbecue stoked up and load it up with supplies from the White Mill shop. Want to give a little extra flair to the tired old munch? Wander over to the wild hedgerows and herb boxes, where you can forage for a little something to liven it all up.

Em va agradar: Absolutely everything. On arrival, Linda gave us some time to settle in before giving us a really warm welcome and sharing lots of local knowledge (walks, shops, pet food for our dog, castles). The view is beautiful and there is a really relaxed and peaceful feel to the site. One particularly outstanding feature to mention is the new shower and toilet facilities. We felt like we were using a spa!! Wood from their land has been used to make a lot of the main features, it is all perfectly clean, the showers are lovely and hot (no timer!), plenty of toilets/showers/washing up sinks and then some lovely touches like all environmentally friendly soap, free books and free-range eggs!
There were lovely walks around the campsite, and it is also nice and close to Camarthen if a big town is what is needed. We were only meant to stay one night but we couldn't help but stay for two. Couldn't recommend enough!

Spacious pitch with lovely views.
New shower block was great and clean.
Games barn was ideal to keep the children entertained.
Great welcome and helpful owners with lots of useful advice.

Em va agradar: What a beautiful, peaceful campsite. Linda was extremely helpful, giving directions to get to site, and providing her local knowledge of places to go. Amenities are spotless, fresh eggs provided too. A lively find.

Em va agradar: We loved this site. Great shower and toilet facilities with plenty of room. Nicely laid out site with small number of motorhome/ caravan pitches and a couple of other fields for camping. Peaceful with nice views over the hills. Site owner Linda was wonderful really friendly and helpful and even gave us a lift to the steam railway. Highly recommended and we plan on going back!

The owners are clearly working hard to create a lovely place with handmade wooden details too. Beautiful surroundings.

Em va agradar: Lovely freindly welcome informed us of local walks and places to eat. The new shower block is looking really good .very spacious and cleaned regularly. Free use of fridge and freezer and kettle if needed .fantastic wildlife. The campsite is a credit to the lovely owners .will be back .

Em va agradar: It was great to have parking next to the pitch. There was plenty of room, a short walk to the showers and kitchen, all on flat ground. A quiet area, I particularly appreciated the birdsong and it was also nice to hear the lowing of the cows. A wonderful countryside soundtrack.
Linda was very welcoming and helpful. We couldn't have wished for a better campsite.

Em va agradar: Loved the new amenities block with simple but really great touches such as a kettle to be able to easily boil water. Views are beautiful and the hostess, Linda, was very friendly and helpful. They even allowed campfires by providing drums to burn the wood in. Overall an excellent experience.

Llocs d'interès

History buffs should surely be fans of this part of Carmarthenshire: Dinefwr, Llansteffan and Kidwelly castles are all within about half an hour, the National Trust has some fab properties nearby (Dolaucothi Gold Mines and the house and park at Dinefwr are musts) and you can nab a glimpse into the past under someone else’s steam by climbing aboard the Gwili Steam Railway, 10 minutes away. Prefer to get out and about for a stroll in nature? The National Botanic Garden of Wales, where you can traipse through acres of countryside, formal gardens and nature reserve, is a little over 10 minutes from base, and the spectacular Aberglasney Gardens are within 15. If all the rural is beginning to grate, head straight for Swansea (45 minutes away) for a taste of the urban – there are museums, markets, pubs and restaurants to check out, as well as plenty of shops. Make a 45-minute beeline for Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo or Oakwood Theme Park when the kids start to whine, and let their pumping adrenaline get them back on side.
