Got Snowdonia National Park in your sights? You can add a little sailing or windsurfing – and relaxation on a family-run site – into the mix when staying at Pen Y Bont Touring and Camping Park. This peaceful place is just a few hundred metres from the shore of Bala Lake (also known by its Welsh name Llyn Tegid). The fresh air of the Snowdonia National Park is sure to aid that well-awaited relaxation… and when you’re feeling fully rejuvenated (and full of tasty food from the shops and restaurants in Bala town centre, 15 minutes’ walk away), there are activities like sailing, windsurfing and boat hire around the lake. Switch up Bala Lake’s gentle ripples for the whitewater of the Tryweryn at the National White Water Centre, 10 minutes’ drive away. Adventurous souls can zoom down the 1080-metre zipwire at Zip World Llechwedd (40 minutes’ drive), climb Snowdonia’s mountains or catch a few swells at the surf lagoon at Adventure Parc Snowdonia (50 minutes). If you’d rather move at a more leisurely pace, putting a few holes as you go, there’s a golf course on the other side of Bala, half an hour’s walk away from the site. Spa days and massage treatments are available about 10 minutes' walk away too.

Em va agradar: Really impressed with the overall quality of the site. Very clean site with well maintained garden/ play areas. Toilets very clean will be coming back.

No em va agradar: The entrance gate could do with widening as nearly caught the side of the caravan when entering.

Em va agradar: Great level pitch lovely site a little big for us but everyone's different. Facilities very nice clean warm showers. Friendly and welcoming staff.

No em va agradar: Only one toilet had toilet roll in first thing but that was sorted later.

Tenda de safari Derw 2 habitacions (mascotes admeses)

Em va agradar: Lovely stay at Pen Y Bont. The tent was amazing, it was clean and had all the facilities we needed for our stay. The toilet and shower facilities were spotless. The staff were wonderful and so helpful. Fab location with a short walk into the town or to the lake. We will be returning.

Em va agradar: Great set up, clean and well managed. We arrived late on both occasions and were left clear pitch instructions. Staff lovely and very helpful. Facilities were spot on …so much so we went back on the journey home! Well Done.

Em va agradar: Absolutely fantastic site, spacious and spotless facilities, only a 15 min walk to town, close to the riverside railway and water sports. The team on site were welcoming and helpful when making a booking for 2 pitches… we were able to easily return following a disaster at Abersoch but I think it will be booked up quick in summer

For those days where you can’t be bothered to walk too far, it’s very handy that the station for the narrow-gauge Bala Lake Railway is just five minutes’ walk away. Views of the water are a given, but count the mountains too: Arenig Fawr, Aran Fawddwy and Aran Benllyn are visible on the route. You may have your sights set on climbing Wales’ tallest mountain, perhaps. If you’re not climbing up Snowdon (an hour's drive) yourself, you might want to take the Snowdon Mountain Railway (an hour and five minutes), which has been making its ascent for over 100 years. A less strenuous trail than the Snowdon climb is the Mawddach Trail, which runs for just under 10 miles from Dolgellau (half an hour), crossing over the gorgeous Barmouth railway bridge on the other end. Coed y Brenin Forest Park (35 minutes) has plenty of trails too, through thick forest this time. You can take them on by mountain bike, standard bicycle or on foot – and there’s bike hire at the forest park.
