Feeling in need of a rural retreat still within reach of city sights? Then take a base at the peaceful meadow pitches at Pengellys Farm, a three-acre working farm site just 10 minutes’ drive from Exeter city centre but also within reach of moorlands and coast. This generously-sized site will set you in good stead for a range of pursuits, including walking and mountain biking through nearby forests, trekking towards waterfalls or making way to the coast (Teignmouth within 20 minutes’ drive and 25 minutes to Dawlish Warren). If you feel like stretching your legs first thing, you can take off along one of the local public footpaths (more routes further afield in Dartmoor National Park, half an hour’s drive). As you’re in a nice peaceful hamlet on the outskirts of the city, there’s an ice cream parlour within five minutes’ drive, for those with a sweet tooth, and fresh organic produce at the next farm. When the time calls for food or for a chilled drink, head to the local pub also within five minutes’ drive. Or perhaps step into the nearby food shop (also five minutes’ drive) and unwind back on site with a barbecue. Save any leftover tidbits for your dog, as they’re also welcome on site.

Em va agradar: The shower works well.

No em va agradar: The grass was quite long, meaning that you feel lumps under the tent. The field had lots of animal poop. Nowhere to wash dishes apart from the toilet.

Em va agradar: Liked the pond, the remote field, the calm, yet the proximity to Exeter. The shower was warm and pleasant. Toilet was fine with loo roll and blue roll supplied. The owner was welcoming but not intrusive.

No em va agradar: The one toilet and the one shower doors do not lock. Not a problem as there were few campers but could prove awkward at busy times. Could be cleaner or improve with a bit of TLC but overall ok.
