Take a ride on the severn valley railway

Forest views come as standard when you stay at Crabmill Holiday Park – the pods at this Worcestershire site all have decks with fab views over to Far Forest. This is a splendidly peaceful place to settle down for a countryside break, with a barbecue and outdoor seating provided to help you make the most of those views. That said, surely the prime spot here for scenery-admiring/stargazing has to be the private hot tub that’s set up outside each pod… Each pod also has its own ensuite shower room and a mini kitchen (with cooker, toaster, fridge, kettle and microwave) so you’ll be pretty self-sufficient. Bed linen is provided too (but please bring your own towels), to keep things nice and easy, and you’re welcome to bring the family dog along to join in the fun. Much time is likely to be spent hanging out in your little wooden retreat, but it’s certainly worth planning several outings – there are plenty of options for woodland walks and fishing days in the local area, plus pubs to stop off at for a meal or a drink. The site is also well placed for rides on the Severn Valley Railway and days at West Midland Safari Park, and there’s a Go Ape adventure park close by for the daredevils. Bewdley (10 minutes’ drive) is a handy nearby town for food supplies, or you could head west to Ludlow, which is renowned for its excellent independent shops and markets.

Em va agradar: Cute pod with lovely view over meadow. Hot tub was a very nice treat. Nice cheery welcome with tasty little bottle of champagne. I suppose most of these pods would usually be used by a couple or twosome, so cutlet and utensils would be ideal then but a few more things for a family would be welcome. A dust pan and brush, and a sharp knife to cut food up.

No em va agradar: Shame the bed linen smelt of tobacco smoke because the bed was super comfy.

No em va agradar: Hot tub was too cold to get in. we have a 2 year old who goes to bed early, too cold to sit outside and couldn’t have a conversation inside incase we woke him. We booked this site mainly for the hot tub. Will not be re visiting

Del gerent: Thank you for your review, when you emailed me today all you was interested in was a refund why didn't you call email or text us whilst onsite if these issues were genuine? Isnt it ironic you had these issues once you finished your holiday? It's because you was enjoying your experience but tried to blackmail me today saying if I didn't refund you then you would leave me a negative review well there you go , obviously from our honest reviews anyone can see we offer a great experience giving great value for money also striving for our guests to thoroughly relax & enjoy there stay with us.

Em va agradar: We had a very peacefull relaxing overnight stay,the lodge was fully equiped with everything that you could need,was abit chilly inside but we had a electric heater in the lodge that we had on which made it abit more warmer, it was very clean inside,the bed and pillows was very comfy.The hot tub was clean.We was suprised with two very cute visitors.

Em va agradar: The view was beautiful, the peace was lovely, the hot tub was delightful (and we spent most of the time in there!), the bed was super comfy, and the amenities in the tiny kitchen served us well for cooking our small evening meal. We were in cabin 4z which was the furthest away, next to trees which were full of tiny birds which was lovely. We were also joined in the evening, and morning for breakfast, by two ginger and white cats, who, by the reviews in the guest book, seem to be regulars around the area!

Enjoyed the forest views from your pod? Take a closer look by exploring the trails of Wyre Forest (five minutes’ drive) – England’s largest woodland nature reserve can be explored on foot or by bike (with bike hire at the visitor centre) and there’s a Go Ape for those who’d like to climb up into the trees. Back down at ground level, there are four lakes to fish at Furnace Mill Fishery (five minutes), exotic beasts to meet at West Midland Safari Park (15 minutes) and heritage trains to ride at the Severn Valley Railway (10 minutes). Other days out nearby might take you for a stroll around the 17th-century house and woodlands at Dudmaston Hall or the gorgeous gardens of Arley Arboretum & Gardens (both 25 minutes). A day exploring the castle and food shops of Ludlow (35 minutes) is a good bet too, as is a trip to Worcester (40 minutes) for the cathedral, Tudor House Museum and a riverside walk – time it right and you might catch a cricket match too.
